Happy birthday, Mainframe..
April, 7th is the celebration of 50th mainframe anniversary. In 1964, IBM lauched System 360.
With a focus in the business and scientific world, the “360” means the 360 degrees in the compass.
It was the innovation and put IBM ahead its competitors.
After System 360, 70s brought the System 370.
Around 1990s, everybody was talking that mainframes would disappear. And the “2000 year bug” sounded as the End of Worlds was coming. But 2000s showed that Mainframes are stronger than ever , because they are well designed for some tasks that still PCs and Servers are not.
Nowadays, with everybody are talking about Virtualization, Virtualization was part of mainframe from years ago. Also, Mainframes are well prepared for the challenges of BigData.
Some say they are dinossaurs, but they are as big and agile mammals .
It seems that we will see 60th anniversary, For those that would be alive .
